TRIESTE RUN

WATERFRONT

MONUMENTS

INFO Lenght: 7km Surface: Mixed Elevation: 100 m

Sunday, 6 am, a wonderful light and a lot of energy. Nothing better to start a 7 km run!

As expected the city is empty, bright and cool. From the Cavana area the sea-call is irresistible.

Stepping out of the door, the silent city welcomes you and it looks smaller, more friendly and a sort of extension of your own room.

This wonderful hour of running starts from the seashore, through the narrow streets in the heart of the old city.

This is an ideal itinerary for the early morning lovers, who want to breath some fresh air, browse the harbour and city life at sunrise, while burning some calories.

The Rive path, a stretch of road that runs alongside the piers for a couple of kilometres, is the closest panoramic path from the city centre. The foot way is at some point uneven and unfolds along a bushes lane hiding the sea view. However it is wide and safe being well detached from the two lanes road.

The tranquillity of the harbour, the old fishermen already at work, the bizarre party animals to be getting back. This is worth the early wake up.

The city path starts from Canal Grande: empty streets, silence and peace. The centre has seamless, smooth pavements and wide sidewalks. Because of the time, the city is very quiet and slow, but better always to keep an eye around, a few cars and buses run here and there.

The great thing about Trieste is that you can choose between flat and sloped paths. Sometimes suddenly the only road ahead is an uphill climb and you make your peace and start climbing (e.g., tag Stairs in the map that goes suddenly around 50 m up). Let’s say that from the shore, the slope increases as much as you run closer to the castle.

This run could really be an highlight of a weekend in Trieste and the zig-zagging route in the map is clearly showing how much the mind was wandering looking for the next corner to discover. While staring upwards for the all time, you can fill your eyes with as many details as possible of the marvellous decorations of the monuments and old buildings.

Nature, art and architecture for few lucky morning people.

An alternative way of enjoying the city from a different, unique perspective.
